Using AI for Wedding Styling Inspiration – From Dream Image to Real Wedding

AI has become an incredible source of inspiration for weddings. Increasingly, couples are sending me AI-generated images alongside their Pinterest boards and saved photographs, and I completely understand why!

With just a few words, you can create an image of a beautifully styled ceremony, an elegant wedding breakfast or the most amazing floral installation. You can experiment with colours, flowers, centrepieces and completely different looks before deciding which direction feels right for you.

As a starting point for your wedding styling, I think it can be a brilliant tool!

There is, however, one important thing to remember:

AI is very good at creating a beautiful picture. It doesn't necessarily know whether that picture can actually be created at your wedding venue.

Inspiration rather than a Blueprint

If you've created an AI image that you absolutely love, please send it to me!

I don't look at an inspiration image and expect us to recreate every tiny detail. Instead, I look at and explore why you love it.

Perhaps it's the abundance of candlelight, the height of the centrepieces or the way the flowers frame the ceremony space. It might be the colour palette, the table styling, the softness of the florals or simply the overall feeling the image creates. Those are all incredibly useful clues!

We can take those elements and use them as the starting point for creating something that feels just as beautiful, but is designed specifically for your wedding, your venue and your budget.

AI doesn't always know your Venue

This is probably one of the biggest differences between creating an image and actually styling a wedding.

For example, I asked AI to create a beautifully styled wedding breakfast using a photograph of the Sealy Suite at The Crown Hotel, Blandford. The result looks gorgeous – but not everything you see in the image would actually be possible in the room.

I am very fortunate to know many of our local wedding venues extremely well. I know the rooms, how they work on a wedding day and, importantly, many of the practical restrictions that come with them.

There may be restrictions on what can be attached to walls. There may be specific fixing points for decorations or nowhere suitable to suspend an overhead installation. Many venues only permit LED candles rather than a real flame. Access times, ceiling heights, doorways, fire exits and the space needed for tables, chairs and backdrops all have to be considered too.

AI doesn't necessarily know any of this. Even when you give AI a photograph of the actual venue, you need to look very carefully at what comes back. It can quietly make a room larger, move a window, remove a doorway, change the height of a ceiling or create somewhere to hang flowers that simply doesn't exist!

Lighting can also make an enormous difference. An AI-generated image might add beautiful sunlight pouring through windows, hundreds of candles or specialist lighting such as uplighters to completely transform a space.

It looks gorgeous, but that doesn't necessarily mean the real room will look the same. This is where knowing the venue really does matter.

In the Sealy Suite, for example, nothing can be attached to the walls or ceiling and candles must be LED. Draping is possible, as you can see above, but this is installed by a dedicated professional supplier who knows exactly how to work safely within the venue.

Then there's the Budget...

Beautiful, achievable wedding styling that works within your budget.

This is another area where AI can make the impossible look wonderfully effortless!

An image might show tables surrounded by masses of flowers, huge floral installations suspended from the ceiling, hundreds of candles, specialist lighting, draping and an incredible flower-filled aisle. It can look simply beautiful.

In reality, there may be thousands of pounds' worth of flowers, structures, specialist equipment and labour hidden within that one image.

That doesn't mean we simply dismiss the idea because the budget doesn't stretch that far. Instead, I would ask: What do you love most about this picture?

If it's the dramatic florals, perhaps we concentrate the budget on one beautiful statement area rather than trying to recreate them throughout the whole venue.

If it's the romantic candlelight, perhaps we create that feeling through layers of LED candles at different heights.

If it's the sense of abundance on the tables, we can look at different ways of creating fullness, height and interest without necessarily filling every inch with fresh flowers.

Good wedding styling isn't about spending money everywhere. It's about knowing where your budget will make the biggest difference.

AI can be a brilliant Wedding Planning Tool

None of this means I think couples should stop using AI for wedding inspiration. Quite the opposite! Used well, I think it can be incredibly helpful.

You can use it to explore different colour combinations, experiment with centrepiece ideas, compare different styling directions and help visualise ideas that can sometimes be difficult to explain in words. It can also help bring several different ideas together.

Perhaps you love the flowers from one photograph, the colours from another and the table styling from somewhere else entirely. AI can help you explore what those ideas might look like together.

The important thing is to treat the finished image as inspiration rather than a shopping list or an exact blueprint for your wedding.

Pinterest, Instagram and AI all have something in common

For years we've been saving beautiful photographs from Pinterest, Instagram, magazines and styled shoots.

Sometimes those images have been created specifically for photography rather than for a real wedding. There might only be one perfectly styled table rather than twelve. An elaborate ceremony set-up may have taken hours to create without the time restrictions of a wedding morning.

A styled shoot may also have a very different brief and budget from a real wedding, allowing suppliers to create something spectacular for one beautifully styled table or ceremony setting rather than an entire wedding day.

AI is simply taking that idea another step further because now we can create a completely imaginary wedding in seconds. That makes inspiration more accessible than ever, but it also makes a little realism even more important.

That's where your Wedding Stylist comes in!

My job isn't simply to hire you some pretty things and put them on tables.

A huge part of wedding styling is taking all of those ideas you've collected and working out how to bring them together beautifully and cohesively across your venue.

I look at the venue, your colours, the number of guests, the layout, the practicalities and your budget. We can work out which ideas will make the biggest impact and where something may need to be adapted to work within the actual space.

There are also the personal details that no AI image can know unless you tell it. Perhaps you want to incorporate something from your family, a particular flower has special meaning, or there's a little detail from your relationship that you'd love to weave into the styling. Those are often the touches that make a wedding feel truly personal.

Sometimes an idea works perfectly. Sometimes we tweak it.

Occasionally I might suggest doing something differently because I know it will work really well in the venue, and I will always show you real wedding inspiration.

The aim isn't to recreate somebody else's photograph, or an AI-generated one. It's to create a wedding that feels like yours.

Real weddings like this one at Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, styled to reflect you as a couple, can be every bit as beautiful and meaningful as an AI-generated vision.

So please send me your inspiration!

If you've created an AI wedding image and fallen completely in love with it, please don't worry about whether it's realistic before you show it to me. It's always helpful!

It doesn't matter if it has enormous flowers, an elaborate candlelit aisle, incredible tablescapes and floral installations apparently floating from a ceiling with absolutely nothing holding them up! It's a starting point and then we can talk about what it is you love.

We can take the colours, the atmosphere, the shapes, the flowers or the little details that caught your eye and work out how to translate those ideas into something beautiful for your real wedding.

Because AI can be wonderful at helping you dream… and my job is to help turn that dream into something that can actually happen – and is uniquely yours 🤍.
